Happy September and Estimated Taxes Month!

Hello Reader,

It's been a minute. I've missed you.

Did you miss me?

There's no time like today to get back to what I had intended to do - write to you a bit more regularly. There's nothing quite like breaking through that moment of knowing you need to do a thing, and then actually doing it.

What's even more exciting!? You can come hang out with me and Aneisha of Yellow Sky Business Services and talk all things Estimated Taxes. You even have two opportunities!

The tax preparers on here might be bored to tears at this point - you're calculating these estimated payments for your clients on the daily right now. But, for everyone else, I encourage you to keep reading. You may be interested in these webinars on estimated taxes.

In the first session, we're focusing on what you need to plan out your estimated taxes and calculating federal Safe Harbor Estimated Taxes based on your most recently filed tax return - the 100/110% Safe Harbor.

In October, we'll focus on what to do when that Safe Harbor doesn't quite fit and how to identify if that 100/110% Safe Harbor isn't right.

I'm super excited to work with Aneisha on these webinars. We both regularly get questions from clients and people out there in the wilds of the internet about estimated taxes:

  • How much should I pay?
  • How much should I save?
  • How do I know what my income is?

Next week's session will be recorded and comes with a worksheet to help you calculate your estimated taxes based on last year's income. In October, when we focus more on projections, attendees will get a tool to help them project your income forward.

We can't answer every possible question that might exist about estimated taxes. But we can help you understand the questions you should be asking, the actions you should be taking, and maybe even a little bit about why this is all so hard.

Now, please excuse me while I go hop on a bus and read a book while rolling around town.

Hello Reader, June 15th (the due date for estimated tax payments), has come and gone. But those trixy estimated tax payments haven't disappeared. They're still hovering. AND MEGAN, I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO PAY IN!? Is what friends and family regularly say to me. And, I get it. These seem a little bit daunting. You want to get ahead of estimated tax payments now. You don't want to make a big tax payment next April. Reader, I don't want you to, either. I want you to go forth in 2026 making...

Hello Reader, What takes a bit of planning? Honestly, everything. Every little bit that happens takes at least a little bit of planning. From the mundane, daily, small choices (what creamer do I want in my coffee? Do I want sweetener? Sugar, honey, or something else? Will I need a sweater today?) to the bigger, more esoteric questions of life, the universe, and everything. It all takes a little bit of planning. Tax return preparation is no different. From sending an engagement letter to...

Hello Reader, It's the thick of tax season, and I'm scrabbling daily on a drawbridge of an analog to-do list that goes over a moat of project and task management. The overwhelm is real (including the healthy dose of fear that comes with putting out this honesty). How many of you start your day by reviewing your intentions for the day, dive into an email, and then all hell breaks lose? Or you start in on a project and that project is bigger, meatier, and more time consuming than expected? And...
